Taj Hotel - Burning during the night of terror in Mumbai

Explosions inside Taj Hotel as Terrorists were cordoned out by commandos.

The fire was put off as room by room search for the terrorists continues through the night.

This landmark of Mumbai is no less significant that what the World Trade Center towers were for NYC.

Taj Hotel lovers must be wondering about the damage done to the monument. The old wing of the hotel is a stone structure. Other than the defacing done due to smoke, the facade should be intact. The dome woodwork will need to be redone. The inside floors and lobby would have suffered grenade damage and will need extensive rework. Let's hope that this 1903 structure recovers and starts welcoming guests soon

Great news fellow Indians, Chandrayaan-1’s Moon Impact Probe (MIP) has safely landed on Moon Surface, with the Tricolour painted on it. This idea of sending MIP on the moon was put forward by former Indian president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. And today ISRO scientists have achieved it.

What it means for us, well it is a very proud moment, India answer to the world that the days of tagging India as a developing country are over.

‘Fashion’: a film that scores all fronts

Thursday, October 30, 2008 · 0 comments

Madhur Bhandarkar’s bold venture, ‘Fashion’, has three stories woven into one – so close to reality that the line between art and life often blurs.

The first story, Priyanka Chopra’s character, is of the rise of an unknown small-town girl into a supermodel, and the harrowing price she pays to remain at the top, involving loss of innocence. The second story is that of Kangana Ranaut’s character that shows the fall of a supermodel to dust. The third story of Mugdha Godse portrays the life of an ambitious model, who does not achieve success, but opts for a marriage of convenience

The sequences between Priyanka and Kangana are the highlights of this tragic tale; some scenes actually leave a lump in the throat. Other artists have given outstanding performances too.

Kitu Gidwani, Samir Soni, Raj Babbar, Arjan Bajwa and Ashwin Mushran stand out in their respective roles. In fact, every character is written to accentuate the specific actor’s grace in the given space.

The film has distinctive Bhandarkar-brand of revelations on the glamour world. The film scores on all fronts - stunning sets, lovely music, great performances, and a gripping storyline. It also has zesty moments - wardrobe malfunction, gay love, casting couch, backstage drama, love-making scenes and stunning models in revealing clothes.

The screenplay is complex. The writing by Madhur Bhandarkar, Anuradha Tiwari and Ajay Monga is apt both on detailing the operational intricacies of the fashion world, and on the essence of the protagonist’s core conflicts!

Esha Deol was a Kaccha Nimbu

Tuesday, September 30, 2008 · 0 comments

The much anticipated action flick 'Hijack' releases this week. Hijack stars Shiney Ahuja and Esha deol in the lead roles. Hottie Esha Deol decided to make a trip to Delhi to promote Hijack. Lucky Delhi.

Apparently starlet Esha had trouble getting into the film industry… and that's in spite of the fact that her family background has BOLLYWOOD written all over it … thanks to her parents, yesteryear’s mega stars Dharmendra and Hema Malini.

Very coyly she admitted that “I went through absolutely no grooming before I decided to take up films.

“All I knew was how to act and dance and I still feel that I do a good job of it. But when it came to grooming, I was horrible.”

Esha also commented about her sexy body saying that “It was only after I signed Dhoom that I started taking fitness seriously. My character in the film demanded me to have an enviable figure and I managed to attain it under proper supervision.”

How true. In case you have lost track of things, grab a DVD of Dhoom and watch her gliding out of the sea in a bikini. She may have been a Kaccha Nimbu, but things certainly turned red hot for her (and for the audience) post Dhoom.

Catch Hijack this Friday at a theater near you.
