IPL prevents Shilpa from voting

Friday, May 1, 2009 · 0 comments

Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan has flown to India from South Africa to cast his vote in the 2009 general elections. Actress Shilpa Shetty regrets that she won't be able to exercise her franchise this time because of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

"I just regret the fact that I won't be in India to cast my vote; I really wanted to this time. Elections have to be taken seriously if you are a responsible citizen. Unfortunately with the unexpected turn of events and the IPL being shifted to SA it's become difficult. I would not miss voting for anything otherwise," the actress posted on her blog.

"But to all those Indian citizens who want the best for our country, now is the time to make the decision, don't waste your democratic right to choose. Vote!" she added.

Shilpa is the co-owner of the Rajasthan Royals team of the IPL.

Yahoo's former CEO Jerry Yang gets salary of $1

The cookie crumbles to bits for Yahoo's co-founder and former CEO - the company has paid Jerry Yang only $1 for all the work he did last year.

The breakdown of Yahoo's top-paid executives in 2008 served as a reminder of the current shake-up at the company as its new leader, Carol Bartz, tries to end a three-year slump that has devastated Yahoo's stock price.

When Yang stepped down as CEO in January, Yahoo President Susan Decker left the company rather than work for the woman who beat her out for the top job. Blake Jorgensen, Yahoo's chief financial officer, also plans to leave as soon as Bartz can find his successor.

Even more employees will be leaving in the next few weeks as Bartz carries out her plan to lay off nearly 700 people, or about 5 percent Yahoo's work force.

Yang, 40, has settled for a token salary for years because he has gotten rich off of Yahoo's stock since he started the Web site with fellow Stanford University graduate student David Filo in 1994.

But like his fellow shareholders, Yang has suffered huge losses on paper as Yahoo shares lost nearly half their value last year. The plunge left Yang's 3.9 percent stake worth about $600 million less at the end of 2008.

IPL 2009 : KKR fail again, Mumbai Indians win by 9 Runs!

Bradley Hodge`s spirited innings of 73 failed to turn the tide in his team`s favour as Kolkata suffered their fifth straight defeat of the tournament when they lost to Mumbai by 9 runs.

Batting first after Tendulkar won the toss, Mumbai Indians posted a modest a total 149 runs for Kolkata Knight Riders to chase.

Tendulkar’s decision to bat first after seeing a white track at Buffalo Park for a moment looked to be wrong one as they lost early wickets.

Mumbai got off to horrendous start, losing three wickets for just 54 runs. Kolkata who had no fortune going with them until then, felt relatively better after getting rid of dangerous Sanath Jayasuriya and explosive Sachin Tendulkar before the strategy break. The two openers had carted Riders all over the park in their previous encounter.

Harbhajan Singh, who came after the fall of Jayasuriya, could not do much and was dismissed for 6 after facing seven deliveries. Tendulkar, who showed good signs early on, was then lured into a false shot by Ajit Agarkar at the personal score of 34.

In the end Mumbai managed to reach to 148/6 after 20 overs, courtesy JP Duminy’s gritty innings of 52 of 37 balls. Had it not been the carefully planned innings from Duminy, Mumbai were staring at some serious questions as they yet again saw their middle-order collapsing against some pretty ordinary KKR bowling.

But, just like winning, losing is a habit as Kolkata found them in deep sea when Chris Gayle saw his stumps flying all over the place after the wooden timber received a deadly blow from Zaheer Khan’s rocketing delivery. Earlier, fortune again rubbed Kolkata the wrong way after Sourav Ganguly, considered as God of off-side, perished trying to knick one off the very first ball of the innings from Zaheer Khan.

Katrina and Imran Khan in Sanjay Gadhvi’s film!

This summer, get ready to check out sizzling onscreen chemistry between newbie Imran Khan and B-town’s mirror cracking beauty Katrina Kaif who will be sharing the silver screen for the first time.

According to ‘Dhoom’ hitmaker director Sanjay Gadhvi, the reason behind pairing Katrina and Imran is the fact that both actors have been in long liaisons and somehow can relate to the language of his untitled directorial venture.

Talking to a news daily, Sanjay Gadhvi said, “We're doing intense workshops before we start shooting in Paris. Both Katrina and Imran have set aside ample time for rehearsals. Imran has taken on no film after ‘Delhi Belly’. So he's ready to devote as much time as we need. Katrina is busier. But she too is getting into workshops after ‘De Dhana Dhan’. I'm lucky to have a lead pair that is so committed to creating a new language for screen lovers. That Imran and Katrina look so good together is a bonus. I'm counting on them looking as striking as Ash and Hrithik in ‘D:2’."

When solicited about his new film, Gadhvi said that his new flick will be a breezy romantic movie based on the companionship between Imran and Katrina.

Elucidating a bit more about his unnamed directorial venture, Gadhvi said, “This is a different love story. I want to take the screen romance beyond ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’. Imran and Katrina occupy almost every frame in the film. It's the story of these two strangers who meet and fall in love in Paris over a week."

Admitting the fact that shooting in Paris will be an expensive affair, the movie’s budget is expected anywhere around Rs 30 crore. Talking about Paris as the dream location, Gadhvi was quick to add that, "It had to be Paris. I saw my lovers only in that city. I'd be shooting in familiar places and unknown lanes and streets. I think Katrina and Imran will create a new language for love."

One thing for sure, Imran and Katrina’ sizzling chemistry will be a treat for Bollywood lovers.

IPL-2009: Bangalore RCs steal 8-run victory from Punjab

Kings XI captain Yuvraj Singh sizzled with the bat, fired with the ball, claiming a hat-trick, but he could not rescue his team from losing to resurgent Royal Challengers by 8 runs.

They beat Mumbai Indians narrowly the other day when almost everybody contributed for team’s cause. But today that team effort was missing, especially in the batting department. From 84 for 3 in 13th over, they somehow lost they way and ultimately managed to score 137 for 7, eight short of Bangalore’s total of 145.

On the other hand, Bangalore, despite having started off poorly in IPL-II, Bangalore have now won their second consecutive matches and kept their hopes afloat for the semi-final berth.

Having suffered a severe middle-order slum, Bangalore did well to reach around 150 thanks to Roelof van der Merwe who scored a brisk 34 off 19 balls with three hits to the fences and three over it.

Punjab also needed someone to steer them to the target after Yuvraj Singh took them to around half-way mark with a typical attacking 50. The Sri Lankan duo of Sangakkara (17) and Jayawardene (19) contributed to reach them near to bangalore’s total, but they failed up the tempo of run rate which kept increasing with the passing of every over.

The spin duo of Kimble (2/25) and Roelof van der Merwe (2/22) kept a tight lease on Punjab batsmen and never allowed them to break free. Their effort again proves that IPL-II is being dominated by the whipping boys of cricket, the bowlers. The teams which have better bowlers have been coming out victorious which is good things to happen on a cricketing field.

This Aishwarya-Rajnikanth song costs Rs 30 Crores!

Aishwarya Rai-Rajnikahnth starrer 'Robot' aka 'Endhiran' will the the most expensive film made in India with a titanic budget of 120 crores.

After the thundering success of Shivaji: The Boss, 'Robot' re teams superstar Rajnikanth and ace director S.Shanker. Director Shankar had planned for his trademark signature song that is usually extravagant and the budget for that was quoted to be close to Rs 30 crores.

But the juice of the film is that Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai was offered a whopping 6 Crores to play the female lead. She has now become the highest paid Bollywood actress in history.

'Robot' has been in the tabloids for quite a while now. It is being believed that the Bachchan daughter-in -law Aishwarya is miffed with dear ‘Pa’ Amitabh over her yet to be released flick ‘Robot’, which has become a never ending woe for Ash.

According to reports, the reason for her displeasure is the fact that it was Amitabh who’d insisted upon her to sign on Shankar’s ‘Robot’ opposite Rajinikanth but now the movie seems to have become a thing of trouble for Ash. Apparently, Ash wasn’t too keen to give a nod to the movie’s proposal but it was ‘Pa’ who told her to go ahead as he was obliged to Rajini for the same.

Industry insiders suggest that the movie has been delayed to the hilt and it’s due to this that Ash is not able to sign on new projects since she has to finish off with ‘Robot’ first. Some reports even indicate towards a supposed string of disagreements between Ash and Shankar (the director of ‘Robot’) on the last minute changes in the script as well as over little nuances like make-up and clothes.

IPL 2009 : SRK's first ever blog on Knight Riders' official website

Shah Rukh Khan is the latest Bollywood superstar to enter the webspace with the launch of his personal blog on the official website of his IPL team - 'Knight Riders'. The following is Shah Rukh's first ever blog that he wrote after 'Knight Riders' were defeated by 'Rajasthan Royals' in their last match on April 23:

The beginning of a new day!

When the season started, I thought I would write every couple of days to all our fans that visit our site.

Firstly, thanks for doing so and a special thanks to all who believe in the Knight Riders and support us as a team. Apologies for not being a regular at my blog or actually not even writing the first entry with the start of the season. So here is the first one.

I thought I would start the first write up by detailing the threshold and culture of this franchise. That would have been apt if we hadn't started playing. Right now, as I write at 5 a.m. in Cape Town, having lost yet another game, which we could have won, the heart is heavy and the mind is numb. Full marks to Rajasthan Royals for proving that a true champion team does not choke at the finish line. Congratulations guys.

I treat this team as I treat my own children. I am quite a doting father and perhaps a bit too emotionally involved with all the things my team goes through. I feel like crying when they lose and go wild with happiness when they win. Throughout the tournament last year, my only concern was that the team members should not in any way feel sad or bad after the losses we suffered. If I could, I would want to take all the disappointments they face with every loss or a bad performance onto myself. As much as I try, I now realise that it is not possible.

This is a set of professional players and they seem to understand one rule that most of us cannot understand. And the rule is that this is a game, and one team will lose while the other will win.

If either the success or the defeat of the last match lingers beyond a day, it would be impossible for them to face a new match and a new challenge the next time round, with full steam and gusto. They gather the broken pieces, try and understand what could be done better and start afresh. Like a father learns from his children, I am beginning to understand this lesson too. Earlier I used to pep talk our team before and after every match, so that their morale would remain positive. As the year has passed into another, I now realise that these boys actually walk the talk; and I need to do the same. I am learning from this whole experience that the more I practice, the easier things seem.

Exclusive Report: Shah Rukh Khan To Sell Knight Riders

After dropping “Kolkata” from Indian Premier League team (IPL) Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), actor Shah Rukh Khan has started discussions with Nokia, Sahara, the Anil Ambani group, and several other companies to sell the team he bought just over a year ago for Rs 300 crore, and exit the business.

According to sources in Red Chillies Entertainment, KKR’s holding company, “Shah Rukh Khan has been trying to sell a stake in KKR for some time now. But since most companies he approached also wanted management control, Khan is now talking to Nokia, Sahara, Anil Ambani and others to sell his entire shareholding.”

Khan’s public relations officer, however, said she would not be able to confirm the development because she had not met the actor.

None of those who have reportedly been approached confirmed the development. Sahara India’s communications director Abhijit Sarkar said: “We have not been approached by Shah Rukh Khan yet. But if he does, we would be happy to buy the team.”

D Shivakumar, vice-president and managing director (markets), Nokia India, sent a text message saying: “Shah Rukh Khan will keep the team.”
