Massa shrugs off last-minute defeat to Hamilton

Sunday, December 7, 2008 ·

Jerez de La Frontera (Spain), Dec 11: Ferrari's Felipe Massa, who was pipped to the Formula One title by Lewis Hamilton in the dying seconds of the last race, said he very quickly got over any disappointment.

"I am not the kind of guy who to get frustrated about these kinds of things," the Brazilian told reporters Thursday as he started testing for the 2009 season in southern Spain.

"I did my job, I won the race, I did the best I could. Unfortunately, we were not lucky enough on the last lap, in the last 15 seconds. But that's life, and that's the sport."

The 27-year-old won the season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo in front of his home fans last month.

But as the Ferrari team celebrated what appeared to be a championship victory, Hamilton recovered on the final lap with only three corners remaining to finish in fifth place and snatch the title by one point for McLaren Mercedes.

Asked how long it took him to get over the disappointment, Massa said "one day, some hours. I am not the kind of guy to get so frustrated about these kinds of things.”

"I had a fantastic season. I learned a lot and it's also another important experience for the future. I will keep pushing very hard."
