Russia wins, Trinidad & Tobago comes third
Its a day to rejoice!
India's Parvathy Omanakuttan was crowned the first runner up at the Miss World 2008 pageant held on 13 December at Johannesberg, South Africa.
Ksenya Sukhinova from Russia, was crowned Miss World 2008, after beating 109 other contestants.Gabriel Walcott from Trinidad & Tobago was the second runner up.
Sukhinova, who was a crowd favourite, had won the Top Model award and stood third in the swimsuit competition. Miss Angola and Miss South Africa also made it to the top five.
The other countries that made it into the top 15 but didn't go further were : Mexico, Iceland, Barbados, Venezuela, Ukraine, Croatia, Brazil, Kazakhstan, Puerto Rico and Spain.
South Africa, who hosted the event for the sixth time, became the country that has held more Miss World pageants than any other. The event was broadcast to millions of viewers in 187 countries.
India's Parvathy Omanakuttan was the first name to be announced for the top five finalists. When asked about her experience in South Africa, she said,"In India and South Africa people are warm and warm-hearted. I felt at home in Johannesburg. Great leaders such Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi have influenced millions of people in both the countries."
